Looking for therapy to help with your anxiety?

Learn to calm the storm in your head and find peace & confidence. Therapy without the commute or the waiting room.

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • You often worry that you’re not doing enough, but simultaneously fear that people see you as ‘too much’.

  • You’re seen as a high performer, but the price you pay is an always-on, always-worrying brain.

  • It’s a struggle to be present and ‘in the moment’ because your brain is always thinking about what could happen, no matter how unlikely it might actually be.

  • You dread waking up in the middle of the night, because once your brain wakes up, you know you’re probably not going back to sleep.

  • You can’t stop thinking about what you said—or didn’t say—in that last conversation and you keep replaying it in your head.

If that’s you, here’s the deal: your brain isn’t broken (but the world is). And, there’s a good chance you didn’t get the tools, strategies, and support you needed to learn how to manage the challenge of having a human brain in an increasingly inhuman world.

The good news? It’s never too late to learn & change, and I help people like you do just that.

How therapy helps with anxiety

When it comes to treating anxiety, there are two primary components: the physiological part and the mental part. For therapy to be effective in treating anxiety, it’s essential that both of those sides are addressed. With my clients, that occurs through a mix of education, skill building, and practice.

Ultimately, therapy is both an art and a science. While the exact process looks different for each client, as a therapist there are two key components to the process that I try to focus on in each session:

  1. Create a space for my clients where they’re able to stop performing, drop the masks and the armor, and just be.

  2. Meet them where they are that day and then act as a supportive guide, helping them learn the tools & skills they need to heal and move forward on their growth journey.

Some of the changes clients can experience from their work in therapy include:

  • Better ability to manage the physiological side of anxiety.

  • Increased confidence, which means less second-guessing and rumination.

  • Greater ability to set boundaries that are clear and effective, but also kind — both to them and the people around them.

  • A greater overall sense of calm and peace.

  • Less time spent worrying and more time spent living.

"You gave me the gift of insight to see patterns in myself that had been causing me to hold myself hostage and stay stuck. By working with you I have been able to move my life forward, stop fearing failure and judgement, identify and move away from negative relationships, and feel like myself again for the first time in a long time."

Anxious about reaching out for support?

If you're like a lot of my clients, you had the experience in your younger years of being let down, or maybe criticized, when you were struggling or sought help. In those circumstances, developing the habit of self-reliance isn't just smart, it's a survival skill. Or, maybe you’ve tried therapy in the past and found it less-than-helpful. Either way, if you're feeling uncomfortable about seeking help, it wouldn't surprise me.

Here's the thing: what if trying to do it all yourself is what's keeping you stuck here?

I've been there too, and it's a topic I'm always happy to explore and unpack with potential clients.

The Nuts & Bolts (when, where, how, etc.)

  • I see clients virtually (via phone or video) throughout California. (In-person 'walk & talk' sessions are also available if you're in the Sacramento area.)

  • Generally, we’ll have weekly or bi-weekly calls, but there are also options for asynchronous support via secure messaging if that fits what you need.

  • While I'm not contracted with any insurance panels, I can provide a superbill for out of network reimbursement.

  • HSA funds can also generally be used.

"I can’t think of one time in the last two years that I didn’t walk away from a session with Steve without some gem of an insight. Old limiting patterns that have plagued me my entire life have finally begun to dissolve. At first, I wondered if the cost would be worth it. Looking back, I find it hard to overstate the value of those sessions."

FAQ

  • If you find yourself feeling physical tension & anxiety, are always overthinking, ruminating, or lost in analysis paralysis, and don’t know how to quiet it down, you're in the right place.

  • My fee is $225 per 50-minute therapy session. I also have concierge therapy options for people looking to do more intensive work, and see a limited number of clients for a reduced fee.

  • It depends (I hate the vagueness of that answer, but it's the honest one.) For some clients, it's just a few months while they tackle a specific challenge. For others it's longer-term, because they value the ongoing support of having a trusted advisor help them navigate through life.

  • Under California law, everything in our sessions (including the fact that we're having them) is confidential unless there are safety concerns or you give me permission to share information about our sessions with someone else.

Meet Steve

As someone who grew up with a single parent in an unpredictable environment, anxiety was a frequent companion of mine from an early age. While the hypervigilance, overthinking, and people-pleasing that came with it had some benefits, over time the cost became higher and higher, ultimately driving me into depression. That lead to my own healing and growth work, as well as a career pivot Having had my own experiences with anxiety, I suppose it’s only natural that I was drawn to help others overcome theirs.

I had a client once tell me I should market myself as the ‘least therapist-like therapist ever’. I don’t know if that’s accurate or not, but I can say this: I'm not here to diagnose you or label you from a distance. I’ll meet you where you are, help you figure out where you want to go, and do my best to help you get there, however long it takes.

Outside of work, you can probably find me reading, playing games with my family, helping the dogs at our local animal shelters, making music, or eating pizza & drinking something fizzy.

Since 2002, in my work as a counselor, psychotherapist (CA licensed MFT #43212), and coach, I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of people learn to calm their anxious brains and turn them into the powerful tools they can be. The work my clients do both inspires me and challenges me to continue my own growth journey.

"I am a far more confident person that has learned to accept myself more than I had ever hoped to do so when we started working together."
